Colors and Stuff

Yesterday Chris and I had the opportunity to pick the interior, exterior, and all other options for our house.  It was such a fun process and not nearly as stressful as we thought it would be.

The picture below is a little deceiving, and I realized this after we had already left the design center.  From the look of the picture, it looks like our main house color is going to be yellow. . .  This is false.  Our main house color is going to be green.  The yellow is the accent color for the hardy board in the eves of our house.  The white is for all of the trim.

Our exterior colors

The next picture is the coloring of our rock.  The rock will go along the bottom around the front and the side of the home.  The thing that is going to change with the rock is the layout.  They are going to be set up in smaller rectangle pieces.  It is going to look really nice once it is all done.

The rock around the bottom

The last picture is a picture of our interior options.  The main stuff of the interior at least.  The hardwood in the bottom right corner is what is going to be in the kitchen.  The tile is going to be in both of the bathrooms, the laundry room, and the entry way.  The wood in the top left corner is going to be what our cabinets will look like in the whole house.  (Kitchen, bathrooms, and the bench for the mudroom)  The top right corner is the color of our carpets.  The colors in the middle on the right are the paint colors.  The lighter color is going to be for the trim on the baseboards, crown molding, and door frames.  The green is going to be the main color of the walls.  The piece right in the middle of the picture is what is going to be the counter tops in our kitchen.  And last but not least, the white square on the tile is going to be the counter tops in both of the bathrooms.

The interior stuff

So there you go.  That is our house in a nutshell.  It is kind of hard to picture everything from the small sample in the pictures, so you'll have to use your imagination a little bit.  It was a really fun process for us to do, but I am glad that that part is over.  I love knowing what our house is going to look like after everything is all said and done.

The next step is to give all of our information to the architect.  After that it goes to the city for approval and to get the permit to start building.  They said that that could take 3-5 weeks.  Then they can start building, which will be in November sometime.  February is the month.  It is a little later than we thought, but that is okay.  We didn't expect to be in when they originally said anyway.  We are just excited for the next step in our life to start.

New and Exciting Changes

A few months ago Chris and I have made the decision that we wanted to buy our own home.  We went and looked at homes, but we couldn't find anything that we loved.  So our dear friend, Maria, proposed the idea of building a new home rather than buying an existing home.  That was immediately as intimidating as it sounds.  Building a home?  That is something that people who have been married for 10 years do.  We have only been married for 3, there is no way that that is something we could do.  We flirted with the idea for a few weeks trying to figure out what was going to be the best option for us.  Many prayers and deep discussions later we decided that building a home was the right thing for us to do.  We found an amazing new development in Springville that was perfect for us.  It is only about 10 minutes south from where we live now, and the area is great.  The style of homes that the builder does is arts and crafts, and it is really cute.  We will pick out the exterior colors early this week, and all of the interior later on this week.  They will start construction sometime next month, and we will be in 90 days later.  We will be moving into our home late January.  There will be many posts to come about the process of our home.  We are excited to get started.

Our lot.  I know, I'm a nerd for taking a picture of dirt, but I am excited.
